Bloggaday 113 SotW 2

Bloggaday 113 SotW 2
Chuck: I interrupt your Bloggaday concept week with this important update.
Tom: That’s right Chuck. Over the past week, two bands have battle behind the scenes for pop culture dominance. It has been a clash of the new and old. The established band, AC/DC has been heads-up with new breakout group, Rock Sugar for this week’s Song of the Week honors.
Chuck: Unfortunately for Rock Sugar, AC/DC was able to establish a foothold early in week before Rock Sugar became a major player for the title. It looks like that means an AC/DC song will take the cake this time.
Tom: It’s funny you should use that tired and beaten cliché, Chuck. The SotW is actually an award the band, Cake, has won.
Chuck: Very good Tom. Without further ado, the Song of the Week is

Tom: I want to be the first to congratulate AC/DC for winning this honor. Even though they won, there was some turmoil for the band itself because there was no clear-cut winning song. It came down between Back in Black, Thunderstruck, and Big Balls. But as you can see, Back in Black was able to get that extra step on the other songs and pull this one out.
Chuck: That’s right, Tom, but do you have any news for next week’s SotW?
Tom: Well, David has shown some particular interest for the Rock Sugar song, Here Comes the Fool You Wanted.
Chuck: Really, why, Tom?
Tom: Well, the line “Sweet dreams are made of this… of the 7 seas,” was really catching with him and he was trying to find out which song it went to. Turns out it is from the Eurythmics song, Sweet Dreams.
Chuck: So are you predicting Here Comes the Fool You Wanted as the next SotW, Tom?
Tom: Haha, I don’t know if I would go that far Chuck. There is still a lot of music to be played, and it’s still anyone’s game. Other strong contenders seem to be Dream of a Whole Lotta Breakfast and Crazy Girl
Chuck: Well, you seem to be pretty sure it’ll be a Rock Sugar song though.
Tom: Well, short of a new song coming to the stage, I really don’t see anyone being able to break the momentum Rock Sugar has been gathering. They seem pretty unstoppable at the moment. I don’t think any older song will be able to stop this sand man.
Chuck: Haha, Tom. Sounds great. Until next time, this has been Chuck and Tom covering this week’s Song of the Week. I thank you for choosing us, and I hope you make the same choice next week. Have a great day everyone.

Bloggaday 112 – Round 3, Write!

Bloggaday 112 – Round 3, Write!

I do believe this is the first time I’ve extended a Bloggaday to three posts.
I’ve got to bring up the title though. At the moment, possible titles include: Jamie “The Other Darkness” Yager; Exercising, Round 3; Round 3, Write!
As I said at the end of yesterday’s Bloggaday*, I think two things have put me in this current mindset: The Ultimate Fighter and Mike Schmidt’s Rocky With a Blog.
I suppose I’ll handle those in that order. As I said in the Bloggadays, I don’t follow the UFC that closely, but I have been watching and quite thoroughly enjoying the Ultimate Fighter. Quite frankly, if watching that doesn’t make you want to hit something, well I don’t want to question your manhood over the internet… but I guess I kind of am. Given the lack of punching bagness in the garage, I went to plan B, weight shadowboxing/MMAing. Which was a lot of fun, and I will definitely be doing it again.
Before, I said I started watching it the season with all heavyweights. That’s mostly true. I caught the end of US v UK, but I really got into it last season. The next paragraph is going to be a bit spoiler laden and boring as I talk about, so if you want to skip it, just go to the extra line break.
As I said, I’m not a big UFC guy, but I know of guys like Liddell, Ortiz, Rampage, and Rashad. When I first started Heavyweights, I knew a little bit about them, but I wasn’t THAT familiar with them, so it took a few moments to choose my allegiance. For the first second or two, I was leaning to Rashad, but I flipped pretty quickly to Rampage. That did not go well at all. I think if it wasn’t for The Darkness, he would have gotten swept. Which was a real shame because I liked Rampage, and I liked the fighters on that team more. I hated it soooooo much when the guy who won ended up winning. Argh, pissed me off somethin’ fierce. I hated him, and I really liked the other three guys in the top 4.
Oddly, I wasn’t a big fan of Tito this season, basically just Rampage reincarnate. I didn’t lean either way all that much though. I think I like The Iceman a little more, but I liked Tito’s fighters more.
Two fighters I like a lot were Marcus “The Darkness” Jones from last season and Jamie “The Other Darkness” Yager. The reason I gave Yager that nickname is because I think the parallels between the two are rather amazing. They are both absolutely devastating on offense, but they’ve got jack shit for defense. I remember Marcus getting a hold of guys last season and just tearing them up. Yager did the same thing in his first couple of fights. The bell rang and he just knocked the fog out of these guys. He’s just such an explosive guy. They both had the same problem though. When they couldn’t take the other guy right out, they just couldn’t handle them. Which is depressing because I wanted Yager to win or at least be in the Finale.
When I say, “Finale,” I mean one of the last two. Last year, they gave a couple of fighters from the season fights. I’ve got a bad feeling that despite how awesome Yager’s matches were, him bitching out after the before the 3rd round might keep him from a Finale matchup. I think the reason Tito got so upset about Yager “pussing” out in that fight is some matter of his own reflection of himself dropping out of his fight with Liddell. Granted, he was pissed off in general about it, but I imagine that pushed it farther.
Now, I’m talking a big game about Yager quitting before the last round because that’s the culture of MMA fighters. It doesn’t really matter if you’re going to go out there and get clocked 12 seconds into the fight, you just get out there anyways. It’s that, “never quit” mentality. I myself, am a baby, and that’s not really my thing, so I don’t really have that much of a problem with him playing it smart, though you do get kinda caught up in the mentality and mindset of these guys.

Argh, this is killing me. I’ve already sailed pass my wordcount for a third day and I’m still not done. I’ll have to use Rocky with a Blog as a segue into a Podcast Bloggaday. I have got to cap this thing at 800 words. Son of a

Bloggaday 111 – A New Exercise Regime for Me. Viva la Revolution.

Bloggaday 111 – A New Exercise Regime for Me. Viva la Revolution.

This is part 2 of the Exercising run-on Bloggaday.
Day two after the workout and I’m still a wee bit sore. I’ve got to say, I’m actually rather happy with that. It’s something of a badge of honor. Means that I busted my ass… or I had lived such an insanely sedentary lifestyle, I could have gotten this sore busting a little MM on a well-done steak. While I prefer to think it’s the former, I suppose in the context of the latter, the former becomes true anyways.
I’ve got to say, the shadow boxing definitely made me appreciate what I’ve seen on UFC. I suppose I should explain my relationship with the UFC. I don’t watch much of it, but I’ve seen this season and last season’s Ultimate Fighter, which takes several MMA fighters, and the winner gets a six-figure contract with the UFC. I started watching it last season, which was the first season with nothing but heavyweights. I suppose that’s just a good season to get in on it.
Well, whenever I watched these guys fighting, it always surprised me how gassed they got. I mean, they’re all in such phenomenal shape, and after a few minutes in the ring, a lot of them were just dead. Towards the end, they weren’t holding their hands up anymore or anything.
Well, as I said yesterday, I took a couple of 8-pound weights and did my own little 5-minute spurts of shadowboxing, punching, moving around, and all of that. I’ve got to say, after that, I understand how just how physical it is. I wasn’t going to the ground or anything, so I’m guessing given my out-of-shapeness that’s enough to kind of make it a wash.
So I definitely have a much better appreciation of MMA fighting. Kudos, guys.
After that, I changed it up a bit. At first, I was just basically benchpressing the little weights that I had. Then in between, I started adding lying triceps extensions, or the best equivalent given the materials at hand. I must say through, I would clap the weights together before moving to the next one. I started doing it so that I had that extra half a second to keep my mind in it and make sure to take it if I needed a second. Basically, cheating if I needed to, but that’s just because I was keeping myself honest on the actual reps. I would go a far down as I could without resting my arms on the ground (I also no longer have a weight bench). So those were good. I must say though, on my last rep, I goofed a little. I could tell the song was rapping up, so I tried busting out a couple extra by going faster. I went for the bench press and started losing it. It wasn’t much weight, but my arm just started to jelly out on me with the sudden pickup in speed. I ended up kind of crushing my thumb on the other hand to keep it controlled.
As for the crunches, I only did 2 sets. For the later sets of all three exercises, I’m sure my form got pretty bad, but honestly, it was probably pretty bad to begin with. My crunches were probably pretty sad, but I still hammered them out for the entirety of the songs. I’m definitely, feeling it in my upper abs though. A testament to how high, or lack there of, I went for them. Towards the end of my last set of bench presses, I wasn’t as swift and straight with my movement. And the boxing? Let’s just say I was showing my button off a little more than I should have. I’ve got to say though, after all of that, I threw some freehanded punches, and they felt like nothing, and they were quick. That’s fun and makes ya feel good about yourself.
Hmm, I justified splitting this exercising Bloggaday up because I was going to talk more about The Ultimate Fighter and Mike Schmidt’s (of podcast and former stand-up fame) Rocky With a Blog, afterall, they are probably at least a little responsible for this, but I’m already at 600+ words, so guess what. The judges are letting it through to a third round. Tune in tomorrow, same Blaggaday page, same Bloggaday time*.

Bloggaday 110 – A New Exercise Regime for Me. Viva la Dictatorship.

Bloggaday 110 – A New Exercise Regime for Me. Viva la Dictatorship.

Yesterday, I said I didn’t want the Bloggaday to turn into a journal, and I don’t think this would classify as a “journal.” It’s more of the same, just some personal anecdotes and unique social perspectives, blah, blah, blah.
Since about August of last year, I’ve been trying to lose weight. Well, I lost about 35-40 pounds and have since plateaued, so now I’m basically moving from losing weight to getting in shape.
Over the last few months, I’ve dabbled in exercising. I go through fits of more and less exercising, but I’ve been rather successful so far. Unfortunately, I’ve been in something of an exercise slump as of late: a few pushups here, a couple of crunches there with an occasional jog up to the local grocer (and I mean really local). Tuesday I went for a jog, and I’ve got to say, I am way too out of shape. Maybe 10 minutes? Probably not even that.
But ahha, I did a rather fun little exercise thing yesterday. Granted, I’ll improve on it next time, maybe get some leg exercises in it, but I think it was a good start. Plus, it was fun, which is a major selling point for me, since I bore rather easily. One example is planks (here if you don’t know what a plank is -> http://www.abs-exercise-advice.com/plank.html). Not that hard to hold physically, but I don’t have the patience or the disciplined mind to do it for an extended period of time. I get in my head, and I don’t usually hold it for long.
With the groundwork laid, onto the actual Bloggaday content. I decided to play a song and then do a particular workout for the duration of the song, and considering I used AC/DC songs, we’re looking at 5 minute songs. Well, 7 AC/DC because that’s all I have at the moment. The last 4 were Rock Sugar Band (And again, if you don’t know Rock Sugar, you have to go here -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mr4HffbAUTk).
Anyways, this started really, because I don’t have a punching bag anymore. I’ve been wanting to get out working it a little bit, and without that option, I figured the next best thing was to do a little shadowboxing with some 8-pound weights I have. I’m a music junkie myself, so I put some music on. I was about half way through Shoot to Thrill, so I figured I would do it until the song was over.
After that, I figured, why not continue? I sure as hell can’t so pushups for 5 minutes straight, so I decided to bench press the weights, but I broke them up with lying tricep extensions. To close out the trifecta, I did crunches for the third song.
As your math indicated earlier, I did 11 songs, repeating those three “sets” accordingly. Unfortunately, I had to do something, so I had to short before I did the next crunch set.
All in all, it was about 45 minutes, and here is the breakdown. I’m already over my wordcount, so I’ll try to go into more detail next time since I have some more related points to hit.

So yesterday

1 – Shadow Boxing (Shoot to Thrill 5:18{last half})
2 – Bench Press + Lying Triceps Extension (T.N.T. 3:36)
3 – Crunches (Big Balls 2:42)
4 – Shadow Boxing (Back in Black 4:14)
5 – Bench Press + Lying Triceps Extension (Highway to Hell 3:30)
6 – Crunches (For Those About to Rock 5:48)
7 – Shadow Boxing (Thunderstruck 5:54)
8 – Bench Press + Lying Triceps Extension (Here Comes the Fool You Wanted 5:35)
9 – Crunches (Straight to Rock City 4:12)
10 – Shadow Boxing (Crazy Girl 3:47)
11 – Bench Press + Lying Triceps Extension (I Love Sugar On Me 3:33)

I wrote this all last night, but as a note from this morning, I’m a wee bit sore, especially my upper stomach.

Bloggaday 109 – The One and Only Journal Entry…?

Bloggaday 109 – The One and Only Journal Entry…?

It’s kind of funny. Actually, it’s not funny, but it seemed to be the proper cliché to open this Bloggaday right up.
I was asked about the Bloggaday once, and I tried to describe as me just writing something everyday. They couldn’t get away from the train of thought that it was a journal or diary of my day.
I didn’t really want to describe it as an essay everyday (which is a little bit closer to what I initially planned), but it really hasn’t been a journal of my life. And I never wanted it to be that. But guess what, that’s what Bloggaday is going to be today.
Yesterday didn’t exactly go… well? The morning was fine. Had some cereal for breakfast and I made some Sizzler toast (French bread grilled with a parmesan/butter spread) for lunch.
Unfortunately, I had problems sleeping, and it was after 12 before went to bed, so I’ll count that towards an iffy day.
It really started breaking bad at about 12 though, just after lunch. They started construction on my street to replace the water main. I moved my truck out of the coned area, but the fine folks decided, hey, lets cut across the cul-de-sac and trap everybody inside, something they didn’t post on their sign. So I had to arrange for a pick-up and take a different car.
Because of that, I had to leave a little later than I wanted for my appointment. Hmm, I haven’t talked about that yet. Before I could register for classes at CSUSB, I had to go to a 1:30 powerpoint orientation for the school. Before I showed up to that (which I was supposed to be there 10-15 minutes early), they wanted me to go to the book store and buy the class schedule and something they call a “bulletin,” which is what I need to follow to graduate. Well, when you find a parking spot 10 till 1:30, you don’t have time for that fancy book shoppin’.
It’s actually like 1:27, and I’m waiting for my elevator because I got off on the wrong floor. I get a call from the office to see if I’m coming. I’m of course the last person to get there, but nonetheless, I get there, and I sit through the presentation, which was more informative than I thought it would be.
From there I was suppose to go over to an advisory session. When I called, I wanted a faculty appointment, but she told me to do a walk-in. Well, I head over to the Social Behavior Building, 4th floor, room 426, the peer-advisory room, and the damn thing is locked. “…” was my thought.
Now the reason why I want a “faculty appointment” was because I thought I was in a particular department (psychology {an impacted major}) that required the appointment before registering for classes. So I figured I would go to the library and see if I can register.
Well that search in and of itself was a pain. The map that I had had like 30 points of interest, so I scanned it for “library” but didn’t see it. So I started heading to the extended learning center because that’s the closest thing I could find. As I’m walking, I try to find it on my iPhone, and sure enough, it’s like the John Favre Library (I don’t recall the name, but it’s close enough). Sure enough, now that I know what I was looking for, I find it on the map under his name.
Unfortunatel, my search for registration continues to crash and burn as you need a username and password to use their computers. Again, “…”
Again, I turn to my trusty iPhone, but it wasn’t connecting to the server for some reason, so no dice there either. I just say screw it and leave. That was the next hassle as I needed to get gas, and it’s a bit tricky to get on the freeway.
Luckily, I get home to find that I can register, but I also found out that I don’t like worms in a can. Ignorance is a much better place to hide. The CSUSB registration website it horrendous. I think it’s java or something, so you can’t open up different classes in different tabs as you can with the CHC website. You have to get to search through add instead of just through search. I won’t go into more detail then to say I timed out, couldn’t sign back in, and had to go back to it later.
I am registered for a few classes, but I’ve got a faculty appointment for next Tuesday, so I’ll get it all squared away and finalized after that.
Well, sorry folks, future Bloggadays won’t be journals like this. They may be rants like this, but… … …

Bloggaday 108 – The 3-week Hello (Piccaday)

A little over 3 months ago, I started this Bloggaday as well as the Piccaday. As you can guess, the first is a blog everyday, and the second is a picture everyday. Throughout the Piccaday, I’ve done miscellaneous things to change it up. Afterall, ot gets a little boring. The last thing I did spanned the last 3 weeks.
Once I finish the Piccaday, I plan on posting a Youtube video of the pictures. Once it hits May 11th, it will hit something of a stop motion video of me saying, “Hello, and welcome to the Bloggaday.”
Unfortunately, the pictures didn’t exactly get spaced out through uniformly. So I don’t know how well it will translate, especially the end. I just wanted to be done with it. But 3 weeks was enough to convey the idea. So I’ll have to do some video mumbo jumbo and see how it worked.
I hadn’t decided what the speed of the video was going to be, but I suppose this will be quite the determining factor.
Well, prepare for a long post, because I’m posting the greeting in its entirety.

Bloggaday 107 – And Yogi Bear Stood There, Pointing Left and Right to Answer Me

Bloggaday 107 – And Yogi Bear Stood There, Pointing Left and Right to Answer Me
Alright, so this week is “get me into CSUSB” week. I kind of got jerked around last week with it, but I’m hoping it’s on track now. Though I’m not sure if I have my academic advising appointment yet. They just told me to go into the walk-in at the psych department, so worst comes to worst, I’ll make them tell me what to do about it.
I suppose the nice thing is the fact that I was able to schedule other stuff in the walk-in window, so I shouldn’t have to make multiple trips out there for this wave of nonsense… hopefully.
If I had to guess though, I’m going to have to set up a different faculty appointment before I can register for my classes (and upon that proof of registration) and get my scholarship funds. This is because CSUSB sets up holds on registration for newbie’s until you get a few things done. As long as all that clears up tomorrow, I should be able to come home and register for the classes I need. Which means I’ll only be a day late since it looks like my priority date to register started today. Hopefully 1 day won’t matter too much. Afterall, I have 2 years of classes I need to take, so it’s not like I have a shortage of options.
Alright, I’m done rambling. I’ll try to get better Bloggadays up in the future, I just didn’t know what to type about today, and this was convenient.
