Bloggaday 242 – A Caption Narrative: Katanas 1-3 pt 1
Well, the Second Great Trigady has officially stomped a mudhole in my @$$. It’s over a week of content, but they all took quite a bit of time to do and I’m just about done. I just need to get the last few into Bloggaday form. To help offset the lack of new and current Bloogaday content generation, I’m posting two more Caption Narratives.
Follow on for the 1st katana at http://s1000.photobucket.com/albums/af128/daviddysart/Craftspicable%20Me/Swords/1%20Katana%20Jarod/ or you can follow on facebook.
Follow along with katana 2 and 3 here http://s1000.photobucket.com/albums/af128/daviddysart/Craftspicable%20Me/Swords/2%20and%203%20Katanas%20for%20Kyla%20and%20Branden/ or on facebook
Katana 1
I don't know doctor. I guess a rabbit?
This is what I did to put a hole my first hand guard. I drilled 3 hole and cut with a jig saw. I have since refined the tactic. Check out my other sword galleries
Don't drop your katana It is made of particle board and will lose against cement. |
Painted and out of the sheath
I didn't take many WIP pics. For those check out my other swords galleries. I'll use those for the upcoming tutorials

I need to add a kurigata for the sageo
I didn't have a store around me that sells ito, so I bout some $2 polyester ribbon, and that
I think I got the perfect size ribbon for this, it's just kind of shabby since I was new to doing it.
Note: For a katana-length handle, buy 7mm wide ribbon or ito.
Katana 2 and 3
At first, I was going to make these out of cardboard for my niece and nephew, but they weren't going to be sturdy enough for any kind of handling. I did use the cardboard blade for the shape though
I don't think these are the blades again. I'm pretty sure they are the sheath/handle I cut out for one of the swords.
The first cut to separate the sheath and handle
General fit and marking where the blade will be
The thin strips are to connect the sheath sides together as well as the handle
Shaped the thin strip to accommodate the blade and tang
Wood glued the sheath together and clamped them together
