Bloggaday 184 – Craftspicable Me: A Battle Damaged Katana? Pt2
In one month I go back to school, a magical place where ‘free time’ is a funny anecdote of days gone by. Making a katana was supposed to be one last hoora before school started. I’ve made 4 of them however, and I still have a month to go. I will say though, I plan on filling that time with another project.* I will say, as cool and awesome as the katanas are,** my new project could easily trump all of that and be the greatest craft thing I’ve ever done.*** If I can execute it even WELL, it’ll be awesome. If I nail it perfectly? Well, I just don’t know what it would be, but I imagine it will involving blowing stuff up and the mind. I will say though, I need to go back to Michaels or JoAnnes or something to get a rather crucial piece for it. Luckily, I can basically make it and actually take it with me… because I need accurate advice from a trained professional. Not because I’m hoping someone would recognize it.
Honestly though, I will need help with finding what I’ll need, what exactly I do need, and how exactly to attach it to said awesomeness. I plan on doing this last project twice, but I can’t imagine each one would take more than a couple of hours. Not quite the 10 or so hours to make a katana.
I remember my backup plan in case the katana didn’t pan out was to make a replicator bug form Stargate http://www.google.com/images?client=safari&rls=en&q=replicator%20bug&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1509&bih=977 . I’ve tried to make one in the past, but I failed miserably.**** The main problem was mass-producing the replicator blocks from clay. I tried making cookie cutters, but the materials I tried didn’t work terribly well. I remember having some Eureka moment before I started the katanas about what to do, but I’m not sure what it was. I know my stuff much better now though then I did a couple of years ago, so I could figure something good out. Plus, I already have an idea or two floating around my head. The blocks would be fun to spray paint though.
Alright, this post was supposed to be about the katana I just snapped, so here’s a picture of it on a stand I just made for it.
I don’t plan on keeping the broken blade on it. I just wanted to get a picture with it. When I actually go through the walkthrough and tutorial for it, I’ll post more pictures of it.
The stand is made of good. There are so many little :-(‘s***** about the katanas that I’ve made, it kind of brings down the overall awesomeness of them. This little stand though? I’m happy with it, rather thoroughly. It looks great. No little, ‘Oh, man I wish I would have done that better. With no real, :-(, I think I might be happier with it than the katanas so far. Yes, I know I’m odd.
Some updates since writing this a couple of days ago. I’ve started uploading all of the pictures of the katanas on Facebook and Photobucket. I’ll also probably put them up on Deviantart and a much more select few on Cosplay.com. So far, you can see them at these links

I went through and annotated/caption/whatever you call it each picture with info and whatnot. One of these days, I’ll get some tutorials up.
/Second update
I started on the new project that I mentioned earlier, but it hasn’t gone terribly well so far. I’m going to have to change tactics and come at it from another angle. I’ll figure something out.
