Bloggaday 190 – NNP 2: Jackoff of all Trades
I updated my status on facebook and tweeted something very very accurate about myself. It went along the lines of “Jackoff of all trades, understander of none.” I’m sure I’ll refine that sometime or another, but I think it’s appropriate as it is. I have a relatively shallow knowledge base of a lot of different subjects, but my grasp isn’t that great on any of them.
Now I do tend to go bit overboard on different things for a while. So I guess I do have a “passion.” That passion just tends to last a couple of months before I move on to something else. I’m left with an info pool of all of the little things I’ve obsessed about over the years. I mean I can talk about politics, but I actually could have held a relevant and insightful conversation a year ago when I was staying up-to-date with it heavy or when I was taking either a poli sci or history class or something. Granted, I probably know more about politics than the average person, but I also know more about computers, anime, podcasting, and writing than the average person. Unfortunately, anyone who knows their stuff about any of those topics would be well over my head.
I’ve thought about joining the anime and manga club at school, but again, I’m a newb in that kind of stuff compared to people who would actually BE IN an anime and manga club. At least I’m assuming so. I have been on an Avatar and Naruto kick this year, but my heights as an otaku were from well before that. I find it amusing though. When I was putting the ACC together, I was going through Cosplay.com accounts, and there were a lot of people on there who had cosplayed a broader range of anime than I’ve even watched. How in the hell am I supposed to compete with that?
This all leads me to wonder if I can even connect with woman/girlfriend/ wife* without this common passion. I have hard enough time as it is holding up a conversation. I take that back I can hold up a conversation. The problem comes in holding my own in one.
Awwww. And this is all just the 1 o’clock neurosis rambling brought upon from shaky self-perception. The joys of not being able to get out of my own head as Mike Schmidt of the 40 Year Old Boy podcast would put it. I started off thinking there is no way in hell that I would post this. Then towards the middle, I started thinking, “Well, maybe. It’s not too bad. I’m starting to lean back towards my initial feelings. It’s kind of in the same line of several other good topics I’ve had for the Bloggaday that I’ve decided I can’t really post on here.
Unfortunately, that’s all just a tease for the next Bloggaday. Stay tuned
