Bloggaday 291 – Roller Skating and a Pirate Adventure: A Bloggaday Double Feature pt 1

Bloggaday 291 – Roller Skating and a Pirate Adventure: A Bloggaday Double Feature pt 1

So I went roller-skating for the first time in my life Saturday. Now, many moons ago I owned a pair of inline rollerblades. I was but a wee lad. Now I’m 6’2” and a buck-80. That fall didn’t sound like terribly fun, but I decided to go anyway.

I was very nervous about doing it on quads,* but I figured, what the hell? I ended up a bit unstable but the wheels weren’t as loose as I had thought, so it wasn’t THAT bad… standing. Then I moved onto the skating rink, which was… interesting. I think for about 70% of the time, I looked like a ninja getting attack by a swarm of evil bee-wasp hybrids.

I will say, it is much easier when you’re going fast. You don’t really have to worry about balance that way. The problem with that though is you get tired too fast. Also, turns suck. My Awesome Sweatband of Awesomeness was doing a fantastic job at keeping me from falling.** That is until the “incident…”

We were wrapping up; I was even unlacing my skate when Katy Perry’s “Hot and Cold” came on. For some reason or another, we HAD to go back out one last time. I tie back up and head on out… without my super Awesome Sweatband of Awesomeness…

I was doing well, finishing strong when a kid hopped in front of me. Even if I had any ability to stop in those things, there’s no way I could have done so in time. So I was left with two options: drop an elbow on the kid and ride her down or dive off to the side and eat some wood floor to avoid her. I did the noble thing and took the fall. What can I say? I’m just a great guy.

Well, the fall wasn’t THAT terrible, but I did a number on my shoulder. I was supposed to go to a yoga class the next morning, but I tried just getting on the ground when I woke up and couldn’t do it. I was able to do yoga Monday afternoon though for my CSUSB class though. After that, I went to a meet up with some friends to do some wall climbing, but it didn’t end up being much of a problem.

When we were at the roller skating place, one of us won a free trip back with twenty people, so that will be fun. It’ll be in about a month, so that’s the next time I’ll go. Hmm, when I started writing this, I figured it would only be half of a Bloggaday so I decided to make it a double feature, but I guess I didn’t really need to do that***

UPDAAAAAAAATTTTTEEEEEEE

The fall resulted in a 4+-inch bruise on my shoulder. ****

Bloggaday 290 – SPF PWND: Santos Manuel Student Union: An Observation pt 1

Hello, folks. For the next 2 months or so, the weekly PWND* content will be from an observation paper I did for my expository writing class. Since it is a school paper, they’re also SPF’s.**

This paper ended up being quite the task. I did the observations Tuesday and then the paper was due Friday, so doing a 7-page paper with content that I don’t really do is kind of tough. And really, it shouldn’t have been this taxing, but when I write fiction, I usually just skip over description because I’m afraid it comes heavy-handed and stupid. I think at this point I’m just retreading water that I did a few posts ago, so with further ado, I give you Santos Manuel Student Union: An Observation pt 1

So I wrote these Bloggadays before I got this paper back. Since then though, I’ve gotten it back. I ended up getting a perfect score on it, but I freaked myself the hizzell out about failing it, so my intros for the rest of these posts will be me all freaked out. Enjoy the neurosis!

Need to play catch-up? No problem! Here are the links to all of the Santos Manuel Bloggadays.

http://tiny.cc/Bloggaday325 January 5

Sitting adrift the desert of Southern California, a building dots the landscape. On less of a grand scale, it’s an impressive building, but even in the context of California State University, San Bernardino, it is just another building. Rising two stories high, the Santos Manuel Student Union is a hub for student activity, but the best way to see this is to go inside of it.

With bold and neutral colors coming together with an eclectic collection of furniture, the Santos Manuel Student Union is a collection of styles, themes, and cultures with students just as diverse as the décor. The base paint of the room is an off-white that seems bathed with experience. Broad swathes of a deep burgundy paint the rooms, walls, and stairs with an imposing structure of slate-grey brick built up around the steps to the second floor to watch over the room.

Once on the second floor, lamps that look like post-modern bug zappers greet students. This artistic expression of some interior designer hangs above the patio section of the pub to make sure that the students have light. After all, it is always five o’clock somewhere. The sway in the light’s positioning gives them the appearance of a constellation of some great snake that once held its place in some long-forgotten lore. Under their suspension is the pub with its sign. Brash yellows and oceanic blues join forces to bring in groves of students. Emblazed on the colors is a blue-silhouetted coyote howling at the great serpent above.

Below the flowing curves of the balcony’s design sits the majority of the building’s floor space. Dozens of students run end-to-end at their varying paces and urgencies. The more stationary ones accessorize with food. Some students even accessorize with computers. A majority of these though signal their presence with little illuminated apples as to remain incognito when compared with the students catching some fast food between classes.

Among the considerable seating capacity is an eclectic assortments of chairs, couches, and tables. Directly below the balcony, the grey-tiled floor offers dining tables and chairs of metal and plastic. That quickly gives way to the warmer and dominant section room. Rather than the recessed fluorescent lighting of the clinical eatery, the vast expanse is lit with windows, natural lighting offering a warmness like memories of a childhood home. The comfort here is fitting for anything from talking to homework to just surfing the net.

Chuck: Hello, Bloggaday Readers, and welcome to part two of Song of the Week 27.

Tom: Hey, folks. If you don’t remember me, I’m Tom.

Chuck: And I’m Chuck. Well, we probably should get right to it.

Tom: Alright, our first song for contention was

Chuck: And our next one?

Tom: Well, next up is

Chuck: So we go from old school Iron Butterfly to some new Ozzy?

Tom: Well, they fit together well enough for a week of music.

Chuck: So what’s our next song?

Tom: Our 3rd song for this week is

Let Me Hear You Scream

By

Ozzy Osborne

Chuck: Wow, no respect for the older stuff, eh?

Tom: This coming from the man who would classify Ozzy, Bob Dylan, Metallica, and Days of the New as the same genre of music.

Chuck: Damn straight.

Tom: Well, “Let Me Hear You Scream” is a relatively new release from Ozzy. It got a lot of radio time when it came out, so it didn’t need to be picked up back then. It’s a good song though, so it was a no-brainer in an Ozzy week.

Chuck: And what song is at the top of Ozzy Week?

Tom: Well, this is where the flustercuck came in.

Chuck: What do you mean?

Tom: Well, the song is

Chuck: And the problem?

Tom: Well, I think I may have picked up the wrong song for this week’s new selection of songs.

Chuck: And why is that?

Tom: Well, it fell pretty flat all week. I heard the tune and must have thought it was a different song.

Chuck: I take it then that it’s not this week’s song?

Tom: No and it’s actually getting pulled from the main playlist, so it won’t get nay plays except for when the entire library is on shuffles.

Chuck: Dang, almost complete ostracization.

Tom: Yeah, but that doesn’t bother the SotW though.

Chuck: Okay. You called this an Ozzy Week. That’s kind of like when the Pats went undefeated all season and then lost the Superbowl. It wasn’t the Patriot’s year wince they lost the big one. Is it truly an Ozzy week?

Tom: As a matter of fact, yes. The SotW is…

Chuck: And the new kid on the block takes it.

Tom: Yep, a true Cinderella story this week. “Dreamer” came in from the number 3 seed to win the whole thing.

Chuck: As much as I would like to harp on it, we have to sign out.

Tom: Alright. I just want to say next week kicks off some major Nirvana take-over of the Bloggaday, so stay tuned.

Chuck: Yes, Bloggaday Readers, come back next week for another edition of the Song of the Week. Apparently the weeks of rock continue. Until then, I’m Chuck.

Tom: I’m Tom.

Chuck: Have a great week, everybody.

Chuck: Hello and wel-

Tom: It’s okay, Chuck… I’ve got this. Hello and welcome to Tom and Chuck’s Song of the Week. I am, of course Tom, and with me is my little-known co-host, Chuck. Thank you for reading this and tolerating him.

Chuck: This is because of that Disney tweet Bloggaday, isn’t it?

Tom: Oh, you mean when Bloggaday Author, David Dysart said, and I quote, “so it’ll go until the next Song of the Week with Tom and Chuck.”

Chuck: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let’s just get on with it.

Tom: What? The SotW or the passing of the torch?

Chuck: The Song of the Week, you id

Tom: So we had an interesting week this week.

Chuck: Why is that?

Tom: Well, our leading song of the week dropped the ball, so much so that it’s even lost its spot in the “Purchase” playlist.

Chuck: That cleared up… absolutely nothing.

Tom: Well, I’ll get more to that in a little bit. First up, we have our first new song vying to be our next SotW.

Chuck: All right then.

Tom: First up, we have…

In A Gadda Da Vida

By

Chuck: Is this going to be another week of rock?

Tom: Well, it’s more metal. Our next 3 songs are all Ozzy songs.

Chuck: Meah, there are six styles of music.

Tom: Is that so? And what are these 6, my Great Music Sage

Chuck: Well, first off, we have Rock.

Tom: And this would include metal, grunge, punk, and stuff like that?

Chuck: Yeah and some of that alternative stuff they have nowadays.

Tom: And next?

Chuck: Well, there’s Country.

Tom: I’m guessing there’s a bit of overlap of Country and Rock.

Chuck: Yeah, but there’s enough difference there that it’s two separate genres there.

Tom: And what’s the third genre?

Chuck: Uh, next I would say is R&B.

Tom: And what would be included in R&B?

Chuck: Rap, hip hop, jazz, swing, blues, and all of that stuff.

Tom: Mhmm. And next?

Chuck: Well, next would be Classical.

Tom: And probably anything with an orchestra I’m guessing?

Chuck: Yep.

Tom: And then?

Chuck: Well, pop of course.

Tom: Well, of course. Was that it?

Chuck: Actually, there’s one more.

Tom: Really? Rock, Country, R&B, Classical, and Pop doesn’t cover every single song ever produced?

Chuck: I know. I used to think that those were the only five, but I recently added one.

Tom: And what would that be?

Chuck: International.

Tom: Oh, I can see why that didn’t come to you at first. It’s kind of a narrow genre.

Chuck: Yeah, I know, right?

Tom: Well, we’re not going to have enough time to get to the songs.

Chuck: Well, we’ll just going to have to get to it tomorrow. As for you, Bloggaday Readers, thank you for joining us for another edition of the Song of the Week. Tomorrow will rap up Song of the Week 27.

Tom: Have a great day, everyone.

Bloggaday 287 – Exaggerific Disney Twitter pt 3

Bloggaday 287 – Exaggerific Disney Twitter pt 3

I suspect non-slutty bopeep is, indeed, slutty bopeep. 10:24 PM Oct 15th via Twitter for iPhone

Bo Peep, if I could correct myself after the fact. I saw her when we were going into the park and a couple of times inside the park itself, but this was the first time I tweeted about her. Her friend (also a woman) was Woody from Toy Story. Not the girl doll, but Woody.

Awe there's a corella deville with a few Dalmatians... And a black-spotted white jacket. ;-( 10:30 PM Oct 15th via Twitter for iPhone

Hmmm, Cruella De Vil. Much punnier than I would have assumed. CRUELla de* VIL(lian).

There was a group of folks in Dalmatian costumes with her. I didn’t have time to count all of the people in costumes, but since Cruella was wearing what appeared to be a Dalmatian stole, I’m guessing they weren’t in the triple digits. ;-(

10 - carrousel. Oh the carrousel... 10:52 PM Oct 15th via Twitter for iPhone

Ride 10 (actually 9 if you recall) was the carrousel. Took me a minute in my dictionary app to figure out how to spell it though. The exaggerific tone of the tweet doesn’t have to do with Disneyland, but carrousel recently came up in a game of Psychiatrist at the weekly meeting of CSUSB’s SAMA. Sexual innuendos were had by all…

11 autopia 11:22 PM Oct 15th via Twitter for iPhone

Wow, this was a wiff. The night was winding down, and it was looking like this may have been our last ride. My niece was in the car ahead of me, but her cart kept dying on her. Weaksauce. Step up your game, Autopia.

12 submarine voyage 11:24 PM Oct 15th via Twitter for iPhone

Now, for our 12th (ELEVEN!)** ride, we hurried to the submarine, but I went into this ride pretty fresh, but that’s because I don’t go to Disnayland often, and this ride has been closed for quite some time, and I don’t really remember this ride from before that, but now it’s got this Nemo theme, which is new apparently, but after the ride, they didn’t let us out for a really long time, so I thought that was weird, but I do have to say, there was some really good air bubble work to make it seem like we were going down, and even though it wasn’t that believable or anything, I still think it was pretty well executed, and… and… and?

12 o'clock and # 13 - Space mother frackin mountain. Ending the night right 12:14 AM Oct 16th via Twitter for iPhone

And here is why I wish I wouldn’t have squandered a ride count on the hectic entrance. If I hadn’t, Space mother frackin Mountain would have been our 12th ride at 12 o’clock (midnight pacific time). It was a good ride. I’m not a huge rollercoaster guy, so I didn’t use to go on Space Mountain very often. They don’t bother me anymore, so this was a good one, some really sharp turns though. I can see why my dad lost his pager on there once.

They were doing some kind of special theme for Space Mountain. I’m not sure if it was because of Halloween or what, but the added creepy factor was kind of nice I suppose, even though it wasn’t that much. I got hella blinded at the end though. That was just cruel…la

Well, right would have involved bopeep, but still a solid, if not happy ending 12:30 AM Oct 16th via Twitter for iPhone

Ahhh, the last tweet of the night. If you remember from my last tweet, I mentioned that Space Mountain “ended the night right.”

All in all, it was fun. I don’t go to Disneyland often, but it was weird not hitting many of the essential rides like Peter Pan, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, Star Wars Yada Yada Yoda, and Toon Town was closed by the time we made our way over there.

My brother is coming down from Northern California for Thanksgiving,*** so we’re going to Disneyland again for that as well. I suppose I could DisneyTweet again, but it won’t be the same without Elvis, Bo Peep, and “slutty” Indiana Jones. D-:
