Bloggaday 261 – Rock Wall: 2 David: 1 pt 2

Bloggaday 261 – Rock Wall: 2 David: 1 pt 2

The employees were busy but the club’s el Capitan anchored* me as I scaled the novice “purple” section. A little before halfway up, I got a bit nervous because I wasn’t sure if I was expected to climb back down or if I could just repel down. I was sure it wouldn’t be a problem for my anchor, but I’m not a small guy (a bit shy of 6’2” and 185 soaking wet), and I didn’t know how experienced he was at doing this. Well, he assured me that I don’t have to climb down, which is good since I’m not sure I could have done that from even the spot I was at. So I continued up, made the top and came down.

WOOHOO! In yo face rock walls everywhere.

After a while, I went up again. I was much faster this time. I had watched a couple of other folks, and there didn’t seem to be a problem if they fell, so I had much more peace of mind. I did go a little too fast** and reckless at points and had some problems, but it was a much better showing than the first time.

Unfortunately, as I repelled down this time, I looked down. Now, I did this the first time and there weren’t any problems. This time though, I turned into the rope. It was going up and I was going down. Now, had I headbutted it, it probably wouldn’t have been a problem. That’s not what happened though. I turned and the rope caught my eye. It wasn’t too bad. It got my actual eyeball, but I think the skin just outside of it got the brunt of the rope burn.

So, that wasn’t much fun, but meah. After another while, I tried for my third attempt of the night and only made it about halfway up. I had big leg push to get to the next handhold and couldn’t do it, so I fell. Two and a half times seems to be pretty decent though considering my epic failures before.

But I suppose you may wonder what has changed since my previous attempts. While I imagine I’m in a bit better shape now, I’m also not a huge fan of heights though. Let’s start with the strength though.

I’ve been doing yoga for a couple of months now, so I’m sure that helped. I’ve also been hitting the gym since classes started up in late September. It’s pretty much been one continuous ache the last few weeks. Though I am glad climbing doesn’t take that much chest strength since those particular muscles were still dead from the gym the day before. They’re a bit better now, but my chest is still a bit sore. My legs were also uncharacteristically unsore for the climb, so that was also a huge relief as they were sore the day before during yoga. So, while I’m not going to be trying out for any football teams or anything, I’m not in terrible shape.

As for the heights… I definitely felt it at that point I described early, where I wasn’t sure if I had to climb down. I wasn’t THAT high, but if I were to just fall from that height, it wouldn’t be good. Then I felt it a bit at the to, and I looked down to tell him I was coming down.

It’s all good though. I definitely plan on joining them next week after the club again, and as long as there are employees there when I go to the gym Monday, I’m going again. I should be good to go by then and not as sore. At the moment, I’m feeling it in my shins and forearms.

Well, I was a bit light yesterday, but this is over 1,000 words for both days. So… the end???

Bloggaday 260 – Rock Wall: 2 David: 1 pt 1

Bloggaday 260 – Rock Wall: 2 David: 1 pt 1

The feud started years ago. The two competitors met in grade school when they first clashed heads. During the annual fair on campus, the rivalry was born. David, the Bloggaday Author, was defeated and humiliated. After that day, it would be quite some time before the two would pit their skills yet again, but that day came…

The two found each other again. They had both made their way to the Halloween pumpkin patch, and the rivalry began anew. Again, they went head to head, and the beloved Bloggaday Author was thwarted again. With object failure, he left the patch, a defeated man. Could he ever beat his consummate foe? Could he ever reclaim his manly hood from the dismal performances of the last two competitions? He would have to wait a couple more years until they would face off for the third time…

And it came to pass that the two would be reunited one last time. The Rec and Fitness Center at CSUSB would be the conclusion of their great rivalry. At the center of the gym, among the eyes of dozens of onlookers, the two clashed. This time… our Bloggaday Author triumphed…

So I finally conquered a dim rock-climbing wall. In my 21 years, I’ve tried twice before and failed rather miserably. I’ve been eyeballing* the rock wall in the CSUSB gym since I stated going every week a few weeks ago. Given my performance on my last two attempts, though, I was going to keep doing my yoga and going to the gym for a couple more weeks before I tried the wall again.

That did not end up being the case. The last couple of Thursdays, I’ve been attending SAMA, the anima club of Cal State University San Bernardino. Afterwards, a couple of the members go do the rock wall in the Rec and Fit center. I decided to join them this week. And so starts my story of triumph.

Bloggaday 259 – New Post Up and the Essential Bloggadays PART 2.1 for the Third Trigaday!

Bloggaday 259 – New Post Up and the Essential Bloggadays PART 2.1 for the Third Trigaday!

Alright, enough of that nonsense. Here’s a little basic forwonwon. The Bloggaday is a 500 word post every single day for an entire year. This is day 259 of the 365 posts. The Bloggaday is broken up into 3 parts, each one being a Trigady. At the end of each, I post a clipshow of the best. These are “The Great Trigadies.” Trigady = 1/3 of the Bloggaday. Great Trigady = the clipshow if that makes the previous ramblings any clear.

During the first Trigady, I came up with a very simplified Post Up (all of the links that end each Bloggaday), some of which had little song parodies attached to them, some of which didn’t. I had been wanting to update it for a couple of week, but after The First Great Trigady,* it was the obvious time to change it, so I completely revamped it and made it awesome. Now that the Second Great Trigady is over, I revamped it yet again.

This new Post Up is completely geared to the second Trigady. All of the songs I used were downloaded between now and the end of the first Trigady. I put the song it came from in parenthesis, but that won’t stay for the actual Post Up; it was just there for informative purposes.

I continued the them with the Essential Bloggaday section. I used posts strictly from the second Trigady. Unfortunately, I updated the Post Up that carried me through the second Trigady as I went along because I started the new segments with Tom and Chuck including the Song of the Week and Performer of the Month, so I decied to not use nose specific posts despite the fact they came up during the second Trigady.

For the Essential Bloggadays before, I linked to 6 post, so I decided to do the same this time. I had 4, but had to add http://tiny.cc/Bloggaday174 and http://tiny.cc/Bloggaday134 just to get up to 6 posts. Kind of sad that I couldn’t come up with 6 good posts when I had 120 to choose from…

Now, I didn’t change everything. The “Listening To” tag and “Twiter Tag” are kind of like Buster’s head from Mythbusters. They remained the same despite the complete overhaul of the body. Well, I need to stop talking now. I hope you enjoy the last little bit left of the Bloggaday!

Bloggaday 258 – New Post Up and the Essential Bloggadays PART 2 for the Third Trigaday!

Bloggaday 258 – New Post Up and the Essential Bloggadays PART 2 for the Third Trigaday!

The Second Great Trigady is over… The desolate wasteland that it has left behind is atrocious. One Bloggaday Author has taken it upon himself to rebuild. First, he needed a new Post Up. He spent hours upon hours researching the culture of the second Trigady.

First, the music needed to be studied. Over the last 140 days, nearly 170 new songs were added to the Bloggaday iTunes, totaling almost 12 hours of content. Each song needed to be sorted and catalogued for parody value if they were ever to be used for the Post Up. Once a firm handle was had on every single song, he had to delve into each Bloggaday-related website. After digging through megabytes of code and interpreting social relevance, he had to pair each one with a corresponding website. Once a website and a song were matched, it was a simple task of introducing the websites with a short parody of the song. Now… the Post Up was half-done. Here were the results

That… was the easy part… Once the website foundation was built, then came the work of art that would lie on to of it. Bite by Bite, he had to construct a baseline for Bloggaday Newcomers. Survivors of The Second Great Trigady would also need something, something to reminisce about… before the second Trigaday ended and left in its wake an interwebbal void that would scar the tubes for generations to come.

The Bloggaday Author would have to traverse the great archives of the second Trigady to find the essentials for newcomers and veterans alike. As he poured through the 60,000 words of unique content, he began handpicking the most sage and brilliant entities that fueled The Second Great Trigady. By the end, he had chosen six Bloggadays that would guide the Bloggaday Readers in their path for enlightertainnment. With the chosen Bloggadays readied, he sealed each with a personal blessing that would carry them to the end of every single post… that is until the end of the Bloggaday in February. These are the chapters of the Bloggaday that shall carry the Bloggaday Reader into the light of the third and final Trigady.

Bloggaday 257 – The 2nd Great Trigady (Clipshow 2) pt 10

Bloggaday 257 – The 2nd Great Trigady (Clipshow 2) pt 10

“Tom: Oh, I’m sorry, I meant I can’t believe it’s only been that many. I swear, you can suck the life and joy out of anything. At least your wife’s sucking involves a golf ball and a garden hose.

Tom: To be honest, I’m supposed to read off the three songs, but I have no idea what they were. I can probably put them on a list or something for next time.”

There was a lot of funny in Bloggaday 230 – SotW 19 Short Skirt Long Jacket pt1 (of 3). The whole golf ball/garden hose thing went on for a while. Unfortunately, “golf ball” and “garden hose” were just place fillers.* I was going to go back and change them, but I posted it without thinking about it. I wrote this early and since it ended up being a 3-parter, I posted it a week before I thought.

“Chuck: A hearty hello, Bloggaday Readers, from Chuck and Tom, your hosts of the Song of the Week. Today, we finally get to the mysterious pic-

Tom: Woo wooOOooo

Chuck: Tom,

Tom: WOOO WOOOOOO!

From part 2 of SotW, Bloggaday 231 wasn’t THAT great. Chuck decides to put down 4 thousand dollars on the upcoming SotW pick, but that’s mainly setup for the next post. I also have absolutely no idea what the whole wooing thing was about.

“Chuck: What am I going to do?

Tom: Don’t worry.

Chuck: You mean you’ll spot me the money?

Tom: Oh, hails nah. I’m just reassuring you because you have a job that you can do from a wheelchair.

Chuck: …

Tom: Well, we probably need to wrap up it up, do you want to do the outro or should I?

Chuck: No, no, go ahead.

Tom: From all of us here at the SotW and the Bloggaday, we’d like to thank for blah, blah blah, something, something, something, I changed Chuck’s speed dial, so when he thought he called his bookie, he actually called my friend, Skip

Chuck: Wait, wha?”

While neither part two or three lived up to part one in Bloggaday 230, part three in 232 was a solid post. If you’ve already read part one and two, then you have to read part three. There is pertinent information in there.

“For my Final 233,

Bloggaday 233 was a horrible Blog post, but I had a bit of fun with the whole TWOTHIRTYTHREE thing. And just to let you know, I types that last one out and held shift. Just so you know

“` Most people probably would have copy/pasted TWOTHIRTYTHREE from the first one, but I didn’t. I typed out each TWOTHIRTYTHREE for Bloggaday TWOTHIRTYTHREE.````` I didn’t even hit Capslock for it I held down shift when I was typing out TWOTHIRTYTWO.`````` That’s dedication to the Bloggaday art

`` Though showing up on time would help, but more on that in a later Bloggaday

```` yay for a 5-hour drive Friday and 5-hour drive on Sunday to come back
`````I copy/pasted this one

`````` I typed this one out too. Shift, not Capslock.”
From amongst the number of Bloggaday 233, this little bit comes to us. The opening paragraph was along the same lines of funny and set it up, but the Bloggaday as a whole wasn’t that great. It was basically me talking about my new yoga class and some coincidences with numbers. Oh, and a 5-hour drive.
Yeah, I did the clip for 233 back when I wrote it. I flaked as I was going through it and did another one. Oh well.
“In a feat defying bones and human anatomy, the monster dug a winged claw into the wall and wetly slithered to its feet.
Paul worked a distended jaw until it offered a guttural, “HENRIC. WE DON’T HAVE TO DO THIS.”
The twisted bat narrowed its body, becoming sickly profiled by the fluorescent light. It cocked its head with a depraved smile as its teeth glistened.
With a dripping mouth, the wolf crushed the collar bone caught between his teeth and watched the twitching bat flutter.”
234 offered more fiction content. It was the second to last episode of The Supernatural Handicap Battle Royal of the Century Christmas Party Spectacular, and it had some decent stuff. Definitely not “favorite Bloggaday” material, but with some work it might get there.
“SEASON PREMIERE OF TWO AND A HALF MEN REDEEMS LAST THREE SEASONS!
I think my favorite Hake``` moment was in “I remember the Coatroom.”
``` I didn’t mean to make Jake Spanish. It was an accident”

There wasn’t really anything noteworthy of 235, but meh. Unfortunately, if you went back to read it, you wouldn’t see that footnote. I’ve decided that as I go back and reread all of these Bloggadays for the clipshows, I might as well edit them. When I saw I spelled Jake “Hake,” I was just going to fix it, but it amused me more to annotate and come up with that whole Spanish thing. So, I guess I’m busting out some real, new content here, exclusively on the Second Great Trigady.

“Chuck: Why don’t you tell us about it?

Tom: Son of a… Hmm. I’d be happy to. I was able to rehearse on your wife last night.

Chuck: That’s nice.

Tom: But to make just like last night, can you yell out “faster!” every once and a while?

Chuck: Okay…

Tom: Well… Okay then. First off, we have “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley, “Around the Bend” by The Asteroids Galax-

Paul: FASTER!

Tom: … Thanks, Paul. Good looking out there.”

239, I would definitely recommend this one. Not a favorite, but I think it ended pretty strong. This isn’t the end by the way, you’ll just have to go read it to find out the ending, well, not “ending so much as just the last half of SotW 20.

“The bat coughed on its own blood, sloshing it to a thick and black puddle around him. It struggled against the drowning for a sound until it finally managed, “Pauckkk… Paul… Now…” It seized, splashing the gel around it. The bleeding from its shoulder, wing, and severed back stopped, and wet skin started covering the holes.

And that’s all I wrote…”

Wow… Bloggaday 241 – PWND: The Supernatural Handicap Battle Royal of the Century Christmas Party Spectacular pt 18 was kind of an end of an era. 18 posts on the Bloggaday. That’s by far the biggest chunk anything’s gotten on the Bloggaday. And I didn’t give it much fanfare in the post…
