Bloggaday 326 – Weird Cultural Zeitgeist pt 1

Bloggaday 326 – Weird Cultural Zeitgeist pt 1
By David “Disregard Yesterday” Dysart

It’s kind of weird how society picks and chooses things to be in the cultural zeitgeist. This particular Bloggaday is primarily about transgenderism. Hmm, I don’t think that was a word, but I imagine this will still be one of my more serious Bloggadays.
As for my opening comment, it was simply meant to compare the cultural exposure to homosexuality and transgenderism. I apologize for the continued use, but I’m not really sure what the proper noun would be there. “Homosexuality and transgender?” This somewhat proves my point, but I’ll get to that later.
I understand that homosexual people are much more common than transgendered people, and that is why it’s in more of the pop cultural eye as it were. Still though, transgenderism doesn’t really seem to get any attention.
Yesterday, (I wrote this a long time ago, so disregard “Yesterday”) I mentioned that I had finally finished my room. Well, I was getting ready for bed when I saw that I had a few youtube videos up that I hadn’t watched yet. Those dim videos to the right ended up making it an hour-long video watching session, but I digress. Ever since I put up the Avatar Cosplayer Cast videos up on Youtube, the site keep recommending Cosplay skits on the front page. That ended up being mostly what I watched. There was some funny stuff. In one of the videos, the entire cast of folks seemed to have been fielded by women, so there was some crossplaying going on. Again, I’m not sure if that’s a word, but I think I’ve seen it used before.
Well, I wasn’t sure about one of the folks. Could have been a girl or just a rather pretty guy.* It was kind of hard to tell from the video quality. I caught the name on the end of the credits, and it rang a bell. I couldn’t remember who it was exactly, but I had it narrowed down to two people. I remember a guy I came across when I was putting the ACC videos together and actually had the same confusion and thought as I had when I saw the aforementioned video. I also remembered stumbling across another cosplayer, this time a woman, when doing the ACC that I saw doing Naruto cosplay (the show the skits were coming from that I was watching)**. I figured it was one of those two. As I said though, the other cosplayers were all women, so I just figured it was the latter.
I googled the cosplayer in question and the first two links were a Youtube page and DeviantArt page. I pop those up in some new tabs and proceed. I go to the DeviantArt page first because I was looking for a picture in particular. I remember last time when I was trying to figure out if he was a guy or a gall, I found out when I was looking at a picture of him*** cosplaying as Squall, so that was what I was looking for. I scrolled the categories and didn’t see a FFVIII in my cursory glance.

Well, cliffhanger time. I’m at 500 words, you’ll have to wait until tomorrow for me to finish. I will circle back to the topic after I finish this anecdote though, so it might be worth reading even if the current story doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. It’s a segue and of course ties into the topic.

134 – SotW 5 – This particular Song of the Week featured the characters a bit truer to their original concept. After a while, I started liking Tom too much and changed him a bit which caused changes to Chuck.
