Bloggaday 229 – My Third Yoga Class

Bloggaday 229 – My Third Yoga Class

As a quick note, yoga is better with a cheering section

As the quarter starts, and with it, 3 yoga classes a week, I’ll make my last monthly yoga-session update. Well, I might still post them monthly, but I’ve been posting them lately because I’ve been in a monthly yoga group, so each post followed my first 3 yoga classes. Anyways, I just went to my third yoga session. Overall, it was good. Sweated it up a little and all of that.

I find that I’ve learned something new each time I’ve gone. Previously, I’ve learned things that have been rather seamlessly incorporated into my home yoga. This time however, I’ve learned something fun, but it can’t really be slipped in. We learned how to do arm balances. At least that’s how it was described. I’m sure she actually called it something else, I just don’t remember. I suppose I should go check.

Well, I couldn’t find the exact thing, but it’s kind of like a really novice version of this http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/2491. I’ve got to say, while it’s not really as seamless as the other stuff I’ve learned, it was a lot of fun. To get us prepped, she had us put our leg over our upper arm, and then we just lifted ourselves up on our arms and stuck our free foot out.

She showed us the complete lift, so I started doing it. While doing it, I wasn’t really watching other people, but I get the feeling that most folks couldn’t do it since like ¾ of the class started cheering for me as I was pulling it off. I was shifting forward when I started losing the pose and slipping back, but as it turns out, cheerleaders really do help. I powered through it and completed the pose. I just wish I could find a picture of the actual pose.

The arm balance was also a nice little changeup from the rest of the routine. Not that the rest of the routine wasn’t good, it just focused a lot on the legs, and my utter lack of lower body strength makes those kinds of sessions harder on me than the typical routine.

As I’m writing this, my legs are already whispering sweet nothings to me of the promise of excruciating muscle soreness for the next couple of days. Well, excruciating might be a bit of an exaggeration, but it’s still going to suck. That’s because I have another yoga class tomorrow though at CSUSB, so I’m probably going to be working them again. Then I have the gym after that, but I’ll try my best to lay off of the legs.

After the session, a few of the folks went to Martha Greens for some breakfast, so I tagged along. I hadn’t gone the previous two times after the yoga meetups, so I figured I would this time. Out of the probably pushing 20 people from yoga, only 5 of us went to breakfast afterwards though. I think it was more like 10 last time. I will say though, it seemed a little pricey for just pancakes and orange juice, but considering yoga was all of 3 dollars, I still came out ahead.

Apparently, two groups feed the yoga meetups, the yoga group at http://www.meetup.com/RedlandsYogaGroup/ which I’m apart of and a hiking group at http://www.meetup.com/walkers-295/. They sad I should give the hiking group a try, so I might try it.

All and all, it was definitely, a good meetup. It was another fun session where I learned stuff.

Bloggaday 228 – September Fitness Report

Date: September 28, 2010

Weight: 182

Fat %: 16

Heart: 74

Waist: 35 1/2

Hips: 39 1/2

Thighs: 20 1/2

Arms: 11 1/2

/Sigh. I suppose it’s fitting that I’m entirely sore writing my monthly fitness report, but I still feel like an old man. I haven’t been doing the workouts that initially inspired these posts here -> http://thebloggaday.blogspot.com/2010/06/bloggaday-110-new-exercise-regime-for.html, but I am sore nonetheless.

This is kind of a perfect storm of soreness. I went to my monthly yoga meetup on Sunday. Then I had a short yoga routine Monday in my new, 3 times a week, yoga class. After some back and forth, I finally got into CSUSB’s rec and fitness center to do some weights.

The Sunday yoga was fun. We learned some crazy arm balances at the end, but the bulk of the routine focused on leg strength, so it’s killing my legs now. I’ll be posting my Bloggaday about it tomorrow, so that’s all I’ll say here about it.

I was late once again to my yoga class, but they hadn’t started the session yet, so I didn’t miss any of that. It was a short session though. I will attribute my back soreness to it though since we did a bit of lower back stuff, and I didn’t really do anything with my lower back at the gym.

So the gym… I assumed it would be in the same huge building that the stadium, PE classes, locker rooms, and all of that is in. But no. I found the rec center though, which is just a little trot in 100+. Unfortunately, I needed a student ID, so I walked over to the library, got sent around since the elevators won’t take you to the basement, got my picture taken after yoga and a half an hour of walking around in 100+. So, terrible picture, but oh well.

So I got into the gym. It’s a pretty nice place. It is a little bit smaller than I would have thought for such a big campus, but it was definitely nice. I worked on a few different machines and got a pretty good feel for everything. I am definitely so though from it. I didn’t spend a lot of time in there, but most of the machines had 45’s on them, and I didn’t feel like changing them, so for a lot of them, I just did a set and moved on.

It is cool though, they have a very nice and I’m guessing comprehensive rock wall there. Given how sore my legs were, I definitely wasn’t going to try it though. Honestly, I probably won’t try it for a while either. I tried doing one a while back and sucked at it, so I should probably continue gym/yoga for a while before I attempt scaling the wall.

So, my legs are sore, my lower back is sore, my arms, my shoulders, my everything else is also sore. As for my fitness for the month, I’ve just been doing yoga, mostly at home.

A blaring rang through the hall and rattled in Paul’s head. Despite its noise, it couldn’t keep Paul’s eyes open. It couldn’t keep him from losing his consciousness.

Pain and a banging brought Paul from the darkness. He blinked back into his fluorescent world to see the bulkhead bulge inward. The metal gave another pounding and buckled just a little more. Paul watched as another blow landed before the pain sharpened. The muscles throughout his body strained, twisting his body against the cold ground. He rolled free from the metal frame and onto the shards of glass.

The door of the bulkhead continued to smash inwards. Its corner finally broke the seal and flooded the hallway with a screech that drowned out the eardrum shattering alarm that had been sounding.

The shoulders of Paul’s shirt nearly disintegrating as his muscles ripped through their seams. Fat continued to metabolize to fuel the change as he began delivering punch after punch into the concrete in protest to the pain. Glass shattered and dug further and further into his hand as he started cratering the concrete.

The symphony of metal stopped only to be replaced by its groans. Paul looked up form his bloody attack on the cement to see the door being peeled from the rest of the bulkhead. Pallor hands continued to widen the hole as the Paul watched, an unbearable rage building in him. The pain became a blur, the picture before him nothing more than a dream.

The hands retreated from the warped metal and the screeching stopped. The action lulled for only a moment before the bulkhead gave another cry. Bulging even further, a husk found itself crammed into the opening. Another bang came and another dried corpse pushed the first out and replaced it. The pause picked up again until another crash came.

The door finally flew from the bulkhead and spun in the air towards Paul. He tried to blink away from it in retreat, but his body refused to obey as the door sailed past him. A creature barreled through the opening, racing after the door, but it thudded to the ground, unable to recover from its own momentum. It lay there, twisted on the ground.

In a feat defying bones and human anatomy, the monster dug a winged claw into the wall and wetly slithered to its feet.

Paul worked a distended jaw until it offered a guttural, “HENRIC. WE DON’T HAVE TO DO THIS.”

The twisted bat narrowed its body, becoming sickly profiled by the fluorescent light. It cocked its head with a depraved smile as slick teeth glistened.

Bloggaday 226 – 3 Events and a Minor Family Reunion pt 2

Bloggaday 226 – 3 Events and a Minor Family Reunion pt 2

Blarg! I have too many dim* multi-post Bloggadays up in the ethers. Luckily, this will cap off Bloggaday 221 – 3 Events and a Minor Family Reunion at http://tiny.cc/Bloggaday221. I still have that second train of thought set of Bloggadays which would be lucky to be halfway done at 4 posts so far. I also have one or two more posts left of the Communism/Carl’s Jr. thing I was doing.

But enough of that nonsense. On the last 3 events and a minor family reunion Bloggaday, I left you with two of the three things I wanted to do over the weekend, but didn’t get to. I promptly cliff hangered you all on the last thing. Well, on top of telling you about it, I’ve got a little something extra that I’ve done to hopefully ensure my ability to get to it in the future.

So, on top of wanting to go meet the fine folks of the Riverside Kitten _____ Anime Group and attending my psych club meeting, I wanted to go see Rock Sugar.

Again, it was a bit of a drive since they’re the house band at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip. It wasn’t much of a deterrent, but I somehow still managed to not head out there for it.

The depressing thing is that it may have been their last performance at the House of Blue, at least as their house band for the time being. I was a post from the band that said their contract was up, and they wanted their fans to send emails to the band lady there at the House of Blues in support of a little Rock Sugar.

What else is a fan to do?

Rock Sugar at the House of Blues email

Hello Miss Rummell,

My name is David and I’m writing you about your house band, Rock Sugar. It’s come to my attention that their contract is nearly up. I was rather shocked. I have wanted to go to their show at the House of Blues, but I have had an extremely busy summer**, and I haven’t had a chance to get out to Hollywood yet.

While I may not be able to sway your decision of keeping the band, personally, I would be disappointed if I missed the chance to see Rock Sugar at your establishment. I just hope that the House of Blues and Rock Sugar can keep their partnership, and I still get a chance to see them there.

Thank you for your time reading this and affording Southern California the pleasure to see Rock Sugar at the House of Blues.

Best Regards,

David Dysart

So that was the third things that I wanted and subsequently failed to do a week or two ago.

For my Final Thought Tonight,

I just want to know one thing, ‘tis all

How can you miss tomorrow’s Bloggaday?

Especially when such lines will be there like this?

It cocked its head with a depraved smile as slick teeth glistened.

Bloggaday 225 – SotW 18

Chuck: Welcome once again to the Song of the Week, Bloggaday Readers. I am Chuck, and I’m of course joined by my amicable co-host, Tom.

Tom: Thanks, Chuck. Another great intro by my sidekick there.

Chuck: Sidekick?

Tom: Yeah. What did you think your part in all of this was?

Chuck: Well, I’m the host, and you are my CO-host. That’s your part in all of this here.

Tom: Sure, Chuck. Whatever get’s you through the night.

Chuck: No, no, no. It’s not ‘whatever get’s me through the night.’ It’s in my contract. Let me get it.

Tom: You carry around with you?

Chuck: It’s on my phone.

Tom: Oh, you took a picture of it?

Chuck: Well, it’s actually a high-res scan, but tomato, tomahto.

Tom: Wait, that’s not going to show in the Bloggaday.

Chuck: What?

Tom: Aren’t you just saying to different pronunciations of the same word?

Chuck: … Um…

Paul: Don’t worry guys. I’ll take care of it when I do the transcriptions.

Tom: Whatever you say, bossman. I trust you… That’s a thumbs-up from our producer for the reading audience at home.

Chuck: Aha! Here it is, right here. See, I’m the host with a CO-host to be added at a later date

Tom: First off, I was signed before you. Second off, my contract didn’t say I was a CO-host. They were just stroking your ego. It’s a trick they do so they don’t have to pay you more money.

Chuck: …

Tom: Yep. Sorry to burst your bubble. I’m kind of surprised you’ve made it this far thought, keeping you bubble cherry intact.

Chuck: Can we just get to the Song of the Week now?

Tom: Probably. There just wasn’t much content to draw from, so I figured it would do us good to spin off in that little tangent.

Chuck: You mean all of that was just because you didn’t think we had enough content to fill 500 words?

Tom: Yeah. You don’t think I’ve actually read my contract do you?

Chuck: No, I guess not. Your slothfulness never ceases to amaze me.

Tom: Good, so this week’s song is

Tom: Hey! I need to say something but we only have like 50 words left.

Chuck: Fine, saved by the word count

Tom: Over the next couple of week, Bloggaday Author, David Dysart will be going through the Apple Ad Songs, so if you’re a fan, be ready to hear some favorites.

Chuck: What the hell?

Tom: I say SotW, which saves us 3 words compared to your “Song of the Week.” I’m trying to keep us lean.
